Address bar is a text box used to enter a web site address in a browser. Web browsers allow users to click the down arrow to view the recently visited pages. To erase Address bar history in Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7 Address Bar):
Select "Tools"
Select "Internet Options".
Open the "General" tab.
In "Browsing history" area click the "Delete" button.
To delete Address bar history, click "Delete history" and then click Yes.
Click Close and then click OK.
To erase Address bar history in Internet Explorer 6.x (IE6 Address Bar):
Go to Tools and select Internet Options.
Open "General tab", click "Clear history".
Click "OK".

Note: in Internet Explorer even if you clean Address bar history manually, history index file stores information which can show where you have been online. History index file can't be deleted manually as it is used by Windows all the time.

My Address bar has disappeared. How can I restore my missing Address Bar in Internet Explorer?
Address bar may be missing in Internet Explorer 6.x if the Toolbar settings are set to remove the Address bar, or if there is a problem with a registry key.
There are two ways to restore missing Address Bar, you can change the Toolbar settings or delete the WebBrowser registry key.

To change the Toolbar settings:
Start Internet Explorer, click View and then point to Toolbars.
If there is not a check mark next to Address Bar, click Address Bar to place the check mark. If there is a check mark next to Address Bar, click Address Bar to remove the check mark, and then click Address Bar to place the check mark.
If the Address bar is in the upper right corner and not available, right-click Address, and then click Lock the Toolbar to remove the check mark.
Click Address, and then drag the Address bar where you want it.
If it doesn't work, you can delete the WebBrowser registry key.
To delete the WebBrowser registry key:
Click Start Select 'Run' from the 'Start' menu.
In the Run dialogue box type 'regedit' and click 'OK'.
Locate the following registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
Right-click the WebBrowser key, click Delete, and then click Yes.
Open Internet Explorer and then select View -> Toolbars. The toolbar default settings are restored.
Firefox Address bar history
How to erase Address bar history in Firefox 2.0:
Select "Tools"
Select "Options".
Select "Privacy".
In Private area click "Clear Now".
In "Clear Private Data" window put the check mark for "Browsing history" and click "Clear Private Data Now".
Click OK to erase Address bar history.
How to erase Address bar history in Firefox 1.x:
Select "Tools"
Select "Options".
Select "Privacy".
Open "History" tab and click "Clear Browsing history now".
Click OK to erase Address bar history.
